Forests and Community Health
Forests and community health are inextricably linked. While little is known about the subtleties of this relationship, it is not unreasonable, for example, to assume that healthy and vibrant communities are more conducive to the existence of a healthy and vibrant forest sector. We do know that forest resources around the world play an integral role in strengthening households and communities susceptible to disease epidemics and food insecurity. Trees and urban forests are also known to improve both the liveability and sustainability of communities, and contribute to community members’ physical and psychological wellbeing. We work to initiate and catalyze research in this understudied and burgeoning domain.
